Destin, FL -
This was one of my favorite places to go growing up. We would sailing
to this area and anchor in the cove on the left of the island (see
below). That is Destin Bay. We would tie up six sailboats
together and spend the week enjoying the environment. There were very
few people around in the late 1960's. We would all get on one boat and
motor over to a restaurant that had a pier. We would take up a whole
room in the restaurant with the 25 people. Some of the best fishing in
the Gulf of Mexico is in Destin. The ocean shelf gets very close to
shore here and the big fish come in close.
